Code of Conduct |

1. Members shall act at all times in a professional manner, giving due consideration to both their obligations to their clients and to society as a whole. They shall take all reasonable care to ensure the safety and well-being of persons affected directly or indirectly by their work.
2. Members shall undertake only such duties and responsibilities as are within their capabilities. They shall make only accurate claims as to their competence and qualifications.
3. Members shall not undertake any activity which could compromise their professional judgement, integrity or impartiality. They shall disclose to their client any interests which could, under any circumstances, be construed to reflect upon their integrity. They shall not act for two or more parties with conflicting interests without disclosing the relevant facts to each of those parties, nor where to so act would undermine their professional integrity with respect to their duty to society as a whole.
4. Members shall respect the confidentiality of any information not already in the public domain that they receive in the course of work for a client. They shall only disclose such information to a third party with the express permission of the client.
5. Members shall not offer any improper inducement to secure an appointment. They shall not undertake work in which another fire safety consultancy or professional is or has been engaged unless they are satisfied that all responsibilities to that consultancy or professional have been properly discharged.
6. Members shall take all reasonable steps to maintain and develop the professional competence of their employees, directors, partners and other personnel and that all personnel engaged on a project (including any sub-contractors appointed by them) are competent to undertake the tasks allocated to them.
7. Members shall charge fees for their service only as are reasonable in the circumstances and generally as agreed with their client. They shall not act in cartel with others to arrange fee levels or do anything which could hinder free and fair competition.
8. Members shall not maliciously damage the professional reputation of others.
9. Members shall carry such professional indemnity and other insurance as appropriate to protect their clients against idemnifiable losses arising from their work.
10. Members shall take due cognisance of their standing as a professional fire safety or fire safety engineering consultancy, and seek at all times to enhance and maintain the reputation of fire safety and fire safety engineering consultancy and of the Association of Fire Consultants.
Failure by a Member to follow this code of conduct shall make the Member liable to such disciplinary measures as shall be deemed appropriate by the Council of the Association. These measures shall include forfeiture of membership of the Association. |
