The formation of a new association has taken place between a number of the UK’s leading fire engineering consultants.
The objectives of the AFC are to raise awareness of the range of services that are available from professional fire safety engineers whilst providing support to the fire safety professional and educational institutions, enabling appropriate co-ordinated and focused representations at national and international governmental levels.
Membership is made up of practising fire engineering consultants whose primary business interests rest with the provision of fire safety engineering advice as opposed to the manufacture, supply or installation of fire protection products.
Some of the key tasks the AFC envisage progressing relate to ensuring a co-ordinated, relevant and strategic development of views and policy on matters that affect fire engineering consultants, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable approach to performance based fire safety engineering.
The Association has a Code of Conduct to which all members must conform, ensuring the highest standards of professionalism are maintained by AFC members.
Until now the opinions and views on fire safety legislation, research and education from practising fire engineering consultants has only been possible on an individual ad-hoc and in an uncoordinated manner. The AFC aims to ensure that the views and opinions of the service providers within this increasing area of consultancy are appropriately represented and taken fully into account by regulators and standards makers. |
